Other portlet developers:
Has anyone successfully developed a Spring 2.0 Portlet MVC portlet inside the extension environment? I'm working on it right now (with Liferay 4.1.0) but I'm afraid that there are some incompatibilities between Spring 1.2.8 and Spring 2.0

Liferay staff:
Is there any desire to move to Spring 2.0? I didn't see it on the roadmap anywhere. It would make things much easier for Spring portlet development, since Spring 2.0 has the Portlet MVC framework.

I'm just wondering if I should jump ship on Spring and try to learn Struts or something.

Liferay 4.2 (current SVN trunk) will ship with Spring 2.0 and has a sample Spring portlet for you to use.

Go to trunk, and look at /portal/portlets

Go ahead and deploy sample-spring-portlet.war

Spring Portlet MVC works in Liferay 4.1.2 as long as you use the final version of Spring 2.0. I just blogged this and added a sample portlet at http://javaguru.fi/2006/10/16/a-little-bit-of-everything/
