Discussion Tag can't be embedded just anywhere...

Liferay Legend Beiträge: 1197 Beitrittsdatum: 08.02.05 Neueste Beiträge
Hey All,

There is a limitation that makes using the discussion tag a little
complicated...

The problem is that it is wrapped in it's own form, which seems like a
great idea, but means that it can't be integrated into some pages...
because it ends up being within another form... and hence, doesn't
work..

So, could we change the tag to use an ajax call to submit it's data, and
then either cause a page refresh on the ajax return. I think that right
now, since we're submitting a form anyway... the ajax-then-refresh would
allow more flexibility at the lowest cost of change.

Thoughts?

...plus it would be nice if it used some random namespaceing function for element ids, rather than the portlet id.
Currently we can't put multiple discussion tags for multiple object in the same portlet.

Hi Ray,

While I think it's a good idea to use AJAX I don't think it's the definitive solution. The reason is accessibility. We plan to greatly improve the accesibility of Liferay in versions 5.1 and 5.2 to achieve WAI AA and Section 508 compliance for our main portlets.

This is not to say you shouldn't do the change but I guess it's good for all of us to be aware of this middle term goal.

Just wondering what was the decision on this issue as LP is now version 5.2. The tag appears to be the same as a year ago.
