Liferay Marketplace Adds E-Commerce, Enabling Developers to Sell Apps Directly to the Liferay Community

Marketplace e-commerce expected to streamline sales for developers and provide richer selection of apps for Liferay users

LOS ANGELES, CA – (March 18, 2014) – Liferay, Inc., provider of the world's leading enterprise-class open source portal, today announced the launch of new e-commerce features in Liferay Marketplace to further accelerate the addition of high-value Liferay-compatible apps to the online store. Developers will now be able to use their Liferay expertise to create and sell apps directly to Liferay Portal users, who will benefit from a richer selection of apps designed to meet specific business needs in an efficient and modular way.

Liferay Marketplace, first introduced in 2012, is a user-friendly, one-stop site that allows the Liferay ecosystem to develop, share, buy and sell apps. Marketplace is fully integrated into Liferay Portal, providing instant access to more than 500,000 deployments worldwide. Through it, developers and independent software vendors (ISVs) can provide enterprise applications and plugins that augment Liferay Portal's core infrastructure, collaboration, and web content management (WCM) platform.

Arcusys, a Liferay certified partner and a grand prize winner of last year's Liferay Marketplace App Contest, is one of many partners looking to take advantage of the new e-commerce features. Its eLearning platform, Valamis, has been downloaded more than 2,000 times and is one of the most popular third-party apps in Liferay Marketplace.
