How to add roles to the 'Viewable By' list

Newbie question: how to you add roles to the 'Viewable By' permission list when creating content, such as a blog?
I have many roles defined but only 'Guest' and 'Community Member' show up in the list.

Further confusing me is that when I view the role detail of 'Community Member' and click the blog permissions nothing is checked.
Clearly I'm looking int he wrong place.

I can't find this in the documentation..

I have tried a regular roll and a community roll.
I grant all the permissions for Content=>Blogs.
But when I add a blog entry the permissions never show up in the list of Viewable By.
I was wondering what controls this list?

I spoke with support. There is no way to control this list. You basically break up the blogs into communities and organizations and set connections there.
I haven't checked to be sure this is a suitable answer. I would expect the viewable by would be connected to roles but it doesn't.

In version 2.0 of Social Office is still this way? Is not it possible to configure the set of roles that appear here?
