Is it possible to convert from demo database to sqlServer after setup?

I am having difficulty switching to the Microsoft SQLserver DB after having initially setup and run Liferay with the default demo hsqldb database. Whenever I try to restart TOMCAT with an SQLServer resource entry in ROOT.xml (the default hsqldb resource entry is commented-out) I get a stack trace dump containing "[Error] [PortalHibernateConfiguration:118]" at the top. The next line of the dump contains the phrase "Cannot Create Portable Connection Factory".

Is it possible to switch from demo to production DB after initial set-up, or should I just throw out what I've done and reload the TOMCAT?
