PRESS RELEASE: Liferay Faces Now Ready for Download
Public release of open source project increases support for Java standard, interoperability in Liferay Portal
Liferay Faces is an open source project that increases interoperability between JavaServer™ Faces (JSF) and Liferay Portal. JSF is the Java Community Process (JCP) standard for building server-side user interfaces on the Java EE platform and is widely leveraged among enterprise Java developers.
The first general availability comes with the recent certification of Liferay Faces Bridge, a sub-project of Liferay Faces, as compliant with the JSR 329 standard from the JCP. Liferay Faces also includes Liferay Faces Alloy, Liferay Faces Portal, and a variety of portlet demos.
"This release strengthens our long-standing commitment to open standards," said Brian Chan, Chief Software Architect at Liferay. "We congratulate our open source community members who continue to dedicate their talent and many hours of hard work into Liferay Faces in order to serve the entire developer community."
The Liferay Portal platform was created in 2000 and open sourced in 2001. Since its formation, Liferay, Inc. has continued to be dedicated to open source development and standards, resulting in the expansion of its community to over 65,000 worldwide, while encouraging adoption of open source in the enterprise with high-quality support and services.
"This will be the first of many important releases to come," said Neil Griffin, Lead Developer of Liferay Faces. "The project roadmap includes new JSF components for Liferay Faces Alloy and many other features."
Developers can now use ICEfaces 3.1, PrimeFaces 3.3, or RichFaces 4.2 to create JSF 2.1 portlets. JSF 1.2 portlets with standard components will also be supported in order to help customers migrate legacy portlets to Liferay Faces.
Support for Liferay Faces is now included in a Liferay Portal 6.1 Enterprise Edition (EE) subscription. Download a free trial of Liferay Portal EE at www.liferay.com/free-trial.
