Liferay Portal RC2 Released

Company Blogs June 8, 2010 By Brian Chan Staff

Just released Liferay Portal 6 RC 2. We are very close to getting the GA now. We had originally scheduled to make this the GA, but our release team wanted to make one more round of releases. We're now scheduling to release GA in another 2-3 weeks.

The major changes between RC 2 and RC 1 include changes to Workflow and OpenSocial as a first class citizen. Go here for a full list of changes.

Go SF.net to download the files.

I'm hanging out at our East Coast Symposium right now. Look forward to meeting everyone. :)

Is there some document howto update my application to make it deployable on this version ?
Posted on 6/8/10 9:03 AM.
What is the "right" place to get Maven artifacts of Liferay 6RC2?
I was able to find some at
https://oss.sonatype.org/service/local/repositories/comliferay-173/content/
But the repository name 'comliferay-173' somehow does not look right.
Is this some test repo or I can use it and expect it to last at least for several weeks?

Excellent news! Thanks Brian
Posted on 6/9/10 2:44 AM in reply to Andrius Kurtinaitis.
Thanks for that great release....

But I can't get it run without errors.. for example I have this error
http://www.liferay.com/community/forums/-/message_boards/message/5057363

Moreover in glassfish bundle I get a lot more errors in this version and 5.2.3

Thanks

jbpm4.3 has been released for some time, is there any plan to update the jbpm-web plugin to use jbpm4.3 ?

Hi Feras: remember this is a Release Candidate. It means it's still a beta version. Lets wait for "General availability" for the final 6.0 release emoticon
Posted on 6/10/10 12:15 AM in reply to Feras Odeh.
Thanks Juan
I'll wait for the final release. But why glassfish bundle even on 5.2.3 throws many errors on windows machine? Is it specific to Linux?

Thanks

Hi Brian,
Do you think it is safe to assume Liferay 6 EE would be available by July end?

Thanks,

Posted on 6/10/10 5:04 AM.
Yup, 6 GA will be available by end of June, and 6 EE in July.

Really Good !!

What about upgrade process? I'm really interested updating from 5.2.3. Are there any docs or guide lines about it?

Thanks,
D.

Great work! I just checked out the 6.0.2 tag and I'm not seeing the portal-kernel source directory. Was it incorporated elsewhere now?
Posted on 6/14/10 11:36 PM in reply to Denis Signoretto.
Nevermind, I see that the portal-kernel code was incorporated into the portal-service code.
Posted on 6/14/10 11:43 PM in reply to William Chu.
@William

Hi William,

as reported in this thread portal-kernel and portal-service has been merged. The new jar is named portal-service.jar.

Upgraded RC1 to RC2 almost smoothly.

Just Document library is broken if you are not admin and using postgresql database.
Even if it is a fresh install of RC2 DL fails for non admin members.
Raised http://issues.liferay.com/browse/LPS-10405

What's the process for filing bugs? I'd hate to create them in issues.liferay if they should go some place else...

This one in particular is with the Search portlet, not finding anything for Web Content: com.liferay.portlet.journal.util.JournalOpenSearchImpl null

I also can't get the 'Web Content Search' portlet to find anything.

These issues are in the trunk.

Thanks for all the hard work though! It looks awesome!

oops.. it seems to have broken for message board also on Postgresql. Reason looks similar i.e ResourcePermission.primKey = mbCategory.categoryId
---------------------------------------------------
Hibernate: SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT mbCategory.categoryId) AS COUNT_VALUE FROM MBCategory mbCategory INNER JOIN ResourcePermission ON ( (mbCategory.userId = 12101) OR (ResourcePermission.companyId = 10123) AND (ResourcePermission.name = 'com.liferay.portlet.messageboards.model.MBCategory') AND (ResourcePermission.roleId IN (10133,10135,12493)) AND (mod(ResourcePermission.actionIds, 2) = 1) AND ( ( (ResourcePermission.scope = 1) AND (ResourcePermission.primKey = '10123') ) OR ( (ResourcePermission.scope = 2) AND (ResourcePermission.primKey = '11531') ) OR ( (ResourcePermission.scope = 4) AND (ResourcePermission.primKey = mbCategory.categoryId) ) ) ) WHERE mbCategory.groupId = ? AND mbCategory.parentCategoryId = ?

How soon can we get an Enterprise version of Liferay 6? Any Hints?
Posted on 6/23/10 3:21 PM.
how to install portlet plugins in liferay6, I tried install more portlets (from control panel -> plugins installation)
in the browser I see the following error message "An error occurred while retrieving available plugins."
and in tomcat log "Unable to communicate with repository all"
Posted on 6/24/10 5:20 AM.
Reason why RC2 fails on Postgres 8.3 and higher is because
Non-character data types are no longer automatically cast to TEXT (Peter, Tom)

Would be nice to get some information about the new roadmap!!
Brian, please tell us something!

Sorry about that! Been really busy getting the final GA ready. We're scheduled for July 12th right now. Fixing up plugins and last minute polishing.
Posted on 7/2/10 10:04 AM in reply to Davide Marchetti.
I do svn update on the trunk and plugins several times a day and I can see there is lots of activity going on!

We are very excited about LR 6. Looking forward to the GA release.

Thanks for such a tremendous effort!

A ton of thanks, Brian.

Looking forward to the GA release

Liferay 6 RC2 is really neat! waiting for the GA release.

I agree with Alshaimaa Ali's comments. The plugin manager throws a Tomcat error "unable to communicate with repository all".

Don't know if that is because there are no new portlets which are LR6 compatible or if there is something else going on.

Denis, did you ever figure this out or was it just so intuitive, no one had to answer;)!

Saw the demo in London yesterday at the workshop - installing it now! Just what we were after.
Posted on 7/9/10 5:57 AM.
As there were so many changes in the trunk it must be tough last few weeks.
How does it look, is it ready to be released today?

Hi!

Does Liferay 6 GA include an Audit Trail / Audit portlet? emoticon

Thanks!
