This year we are excited to participate in an off-site charity activity with Rebuilding Together New Orleans (RTNO). Volunteers will give back to the community with Liferay and make a positive difference in the lives of people throughout New Orleans. Highlights from this activity will be shared at Symposium!

Rebuild storm-affected homes with RTNO

Every year, Liferay organizes a charity activity to increase awareness and give support to nonprofits that align with our company mission of making it possible for people to reach their full potential to serve others. In our efforts to extend the opportunity to more people, we have been hosting charity activities at our Symposiums.

The activity this year will include exterior painting, interior painting and bathroom floor/shower tiling (subject to change) at storm-affected homes as part of RTNO’s October Build efforts.

RTNO has been selected for the offsite activity for a couple of reasons. First, we wanted to give back to the local community of New Orleans, the hosting city for this year’s Symposium. Secondly, RTNO’s mission to improve the quality of life of low income-homeowners through volunteer efforts synced with our company mission.

The Liferay Foundation will be covering all on-site costs associated with the effort and volunteers will be divided into groups of 25-30 per site for safety and workload reasons. Volunteering plans will be made two weeks in advance and participants will be provided with homeowner background and history, as well as general task details.

Let’s all get together to make a difference! Even if it’s just for 3 hours, we can positively impact the people in our community.

Q: What is RTNO (Rebuilding Together New Orleans)
A: RTNO facilitate continuing volunteer efforts and professional labor to improve the quality of life of low income homeowners through home repairs and revitalization of New Orleans’ neighborhoods. Their focus is primarily on those who are elderly, disabled, veterans or single head of households with minor children.

Q: Where is the activity going to be held?
A: TBD (15-20 min from Sheraton New Orleans)

Q: When is the activity date/time?
A: Monday, October 8th / 9AM-12PM

Q: Do we need to bring anything?
A: All equipment will be provided (tools, water, port-a-lets etc).

Q: How should I dress?
A: Volunteers should wear standard tennis shoes and a T-shirt will be provided.

Q: How long is the activity?
A: Approximately 3 hours long (9AM to 12PM)

Q: Will the activity be indoors or outdoors?
A: The scope of work in this activity will include exterior painting, interior painting and bathroom floor/shower tiling (subject to change).

Q: Who can participate?
A: All event attendees with a valid LSNA 2018 conference ticket will be able to participate. Excludes Unconference Only ticket.

Q: How do we get there?
A: Transportation will be provided from the hotel to the worksite. We will also offer Lyft credits for the ride back so you can grab lunch at the venue of your choice or see some local sites before our evening keynotes.

A: No additional cost with a valid LSNA Conference ticket.

Q: Is lunch provided?
A: Time for lunch will follow immediately after the activity from 12PM. Each participant will be provided with $20 to cover the cost of lunch.
