Check if you have a Liferay perspective, you seem to be looking at the Java perspective. Or just check if you'll find them when you choose File/New

Hi Guys,

Thanks,

Hello,
I've tried to install “liferay-ide-updatesite-2.2.3-ga4-201505281145.zip” to the same verison Eclipse-Mars(4.5.0) on Windows 64 and Linux 64 OSes, but I didn't run into the same problem.
Which OS and Liferay ide updatesite are you using?
Can you please help open the "Error log" to see if there is any errors and attach the error stacks?
Thanks.

Hi,
I think you didn't install it from the eclipse market place. Please try installing from the eclipse market place.

Hello,
If you've installing an zip file of liferay ide updatesite to Eclipse-Mars-Jee version, try the following steps:
1. Download the Liferay IDE Update Site
2. Go to Help > Install New Software...
3. Click "Add..." > select Archive... > Browse the updatesite you just downloaded > OK
4. Checked the features you need. And you can also unchecked "Contact all update sites during install to find required software" so that it would install faster
5. Click Next > again click Next > Accept the license agreements
6. Finish and restart to complete the installation
Hope that helps.

Can you attach your Eclipse error log? <workspace_dir>/.metadata/.log
It may show if any of our bundles are not starting correctly.

Sapphire 9 requires java 8.
However, we don't require sapphire 9, sapphire 8.1 is good enough.
Steps to fix this
1. uninstall liferay ide features
2. uninstall sapphire 9
3. reinstall liferay ide (which includes sapphire 8.1 automatically)
Let me know if this doesn't work.

I tried that steps you mentioned
uninstalled liferay ide features, sapphire automatically uninstalled
Next when I am trying to install Liferay IDE, I am seeing sapphire 9 again - see the screen shot for more details
Thanks.

Try the process again, but this time when you install Liferay IDE don't use the marketplace and also don't select "contact all updates sites" in the install updates dialog.

Unchecking "contact all updates sites" did made it work.

Hello verfun,
It seems something wrong with your zip file, you can download a new updatesite file and try install again.
Also you can use the stable link in the screenshot "2015-07-03_1735_001.png" Nagendra attached.
- Help > Install New Software...
- enter “http://releases.liferay.com/tools/ide/latest/stable” to "Work with" section and then click Enter

You must be sure and unselect "Contact all update sites" as this is where the problem occurs.
Thanks.

For me, on my Mars expedition, with "Contact all update sites" selected I indeed couldn't find perspective then I tried a few times with "Contact all update sites" unselected and got an error (which I should have copied...) but on trying repeatedly (4 times for me): eventually it worked and I could find the Liferay perspective on Mars. Sharing in case this is useful for anyone.

Hi Dave,
Go to your eclipse root directory, find and delete artifacts.xml. Now try to install the plugin again

Hi All,
I was also facing the same issue with Eclipse mars 2 and liferay plugin configuration from Marketplace and also using archive.
The only solution i found was JAVA version mismatch. I was using java 7 and have just upgraded it to JAVA 8, its working fine and coming up very well.
So just check java version you are using.

Hello Anindya,
I'm assuming your're installing Liferay IDE 3.0.0. That's requires java 8. You can either set your java environment or simply specify the following codes in eclipse.ini file, then try install again, the following is my configuration for java:
-vm
/opt/Java/jdk1.8.0_77/bin/java
-vmargs
Also, besides installing from Eclipse Marketplace, you still can use the upper steps in this fourm to install Liferay IDE, which will more stable once you downloaded the updatesite file.
Hope that helps.
I am using Java 8 but still facing the same problem

Hello Anindya,
Have you specified '-vm' parameter in eclipse.ini file? Please try this and see if this works on your side.
Also, would you please paste your error stack in 'Error Log' view if you still encounter this problem?
Thanks.

Hello Anindya,
That's the new feature from IDE 3.x, One (Eclipse) workspace per one Plugins SDK . And need to set "app.server.parent.dir" property in liferay.${your-username}.properties file under your plugins-sdk-7.0.
On my side, I'm using 7.0-ga1, and my build.liferay.properties has been set as following:
app.server.parent.dir = D:\\portal\\ce\\700\\ga1\\liferay-portal-7.0-ce-ga1
Please go to your liferay-plugins-sdk-7.0 folder and set the relevant file, then try new plugin project again in eclipse.
Hope that helps.
