Not sure if anybody in Liferay thought about providing integration with Google search appliance or atleast tested with GSA.

There is a great value in adding GSA (google search appliance) integration to Liferay as many more companies are widely using GSA.

I would like to request for the following:

1. Ability to use GSA in conjunction with Liferay
2. Ability to crawl all resources within liferay
3. Ability to display search results in a Search portlet
4. Distinguishing the search results based on security.

Cheers,

Raj Sriramoju

We have done so for a few customers.

Basic steps:
1) Allow the GSA to crawl the portal as a "SE User" with rights to read all content in all communities.
2) Deploy the GSA portlet
3) Deploy the Liferay GSA Authorization SPI module

For searching
1) use IFrame portlet to fwd search request directly to the GSA or use portlet to submit WS request to GSA
2) GSA will execute search and contact the Liferay GSA authorization SPI to check permissions
3) Liferay will tell GSA which content are valid for return.
4) GSA returns search XML (or renders HTML if using IFrame).

We will be providing this integration most likely in the 5.3 EE release around December.

Hi Michael,

thanks for the answer and for showing a way how to integrate a google gsa. On the liferay wiki I found the following article that go into the same direction

Pluggable Enterprise Search with GSA

BUT I still have the following (stupid) questions:

Deploy the GSA portlet

Where can I find this GSA portlet???

Deploy the Liferay GSA Authorization SPI module

Where can I find this Liferay GSA Authorization SPI module???

Thanks again and Kind Regards
Michael

Sorry the GSA portlet is not in our public plugin repository yet. We are working with our client to get this donated. It is basically an IFrame portlet into the Google Search Appliance itself.

For the SPI module, again we are working to get this back into the public repository but it is still pending contracts.

Hi Michael,

I am interested on how the search results were filtered with permission.

2) GSA will execute search and contact the Liferay GSA authorization SPI to check permissions
3) Liferay will tell GSA which content are valid for return.

Dose it mean that GSA found all matched results but filtering them with Liferay for permission before return them to user?

Has this been released yet? We have just implemented our own GSA and are really interested in it but there is still no GAS portlet...
