Hi
We'd like to pitch to one of our clients that they move their portal websites off of the (clunky) custom CMS that they wrote several years ago and onto Liferay. Some of the higher-ups at the company are convinced that Sharepoint is their ideal solution, but we believe otherwise. Is there a site or document or something that compares Liferay to Sharepoint, feature by feature?

thanks!
dina

Unfortunately, there isn't a feature by feature comparison.

But you could take a look here for some information:

Liferay is the only open source portal in the "Visionary" quadrant.

Hi Bryan

it would be great if you could share the information "Why Liferay and not SharePoint". We all want to see Liferay in a lot more projetcs, but as already said, we have to compete against Sharepoint often.
So, any "ammunition" would help.

Thanks
Thomas

I think the biggest thing for Liferay is its ease of use. At least for the end-user. Administratively, it's not all that simple or intuitive.

For the end-user, all they need to know is that if they can see the pencil, they can edit. If they think they should be able to see a pencil and can't, open a support ticket and we'll look in to it. I've worked with both and I can tell you from a user perspective Sharepoint is a nightmare. It's not easy or intuitive for the end user AT ALL.

Comments I've gotten about Sharepoint...

"It takes me less time to do stuff than it does to make the updates to Sharepoint to tell everyone its done..."

"I would have more time to actually do my job if I could just figure out how to use Sharepoint..."

"Why is uploading a document to the right place soooo daaaang haaaard?"

I've yet to have any massive end-user whining about Liferay....
