the latest code can be gotten via SVN. within SVN, go to
https://lportal.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/lportal
and then navigate to
/portal/branches/5.0.x
for the latest 5.0.x build.

if you don't want to use SVN or don't need the absolute latest, you can download it directly from
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/lportal/liferay-portal-src-5.0.1.zip?modtime=1208197235&big_mirror=1

HI,
I think this location has now changed since you moved the source to your own servers. Also i noticed that going to svn.liferay.com takes me to FishEye and not the repository itself. Can you please specify how do we access the repository directly, like for instance if i want to check out from the trunk or checkout some older tag?

Is this really public? (It's asking for login/password when I try to access)

Additional note: you have to get your own copy of Tomcat elsewhere. Liferay's svn doesn't contain Tomcat. See instruction of deploying Liferay to Tomcat for further information.
