For Seventh Year, Liferay Named a Leader in Gartner Magic Quadrant for Horizontal Portals

Analysis points to a resurgence in portal demand due to digital experience initiatives

LOS ANGELES – October 24, 2016 – Liferay, Inc., which makes software for enterprises, today announced that Gartner has recognized the company as a Leader in the Magic Quadrant for Horizontal Portals* for the seventh year in a row. Liferay was placed as a Leader in a field of 16 vendors based on completeness of vision and ability to execute.

In an overview of the market, the report’s authors state that “Gartner expects a revenue resurgence as organizations see the need to expand and improve portal capabilities as an essential part of broader digital experience initiatives … The primary catalyst for change in the horizontal portal market is the response to digital business transformation: the evolution of traditional portal into the digital experience platform,” according to the report.

Leading analyst firm Gartner positioned the competitors in the portal market based on a number of criteria including market understanding, sales strategy, innovation, core product and services offerings, financial health, customer experience and market responsiveness. The Magic Quadrant gives enterprises a way to assess how well technology providers are executing on their stated visions and how they are performing against Gartner’s market view. Introduced earlier this year, Liferay Digital Experience Platform (DXP) is the next advancement of the Liferay portal platform redesigned and extended with greater capabilities for digital businesses. Liferay DXP is software to create, manage and deliver highly personalized experiences in context across web, mobile, desktop, smart device, in store and any other touchpoint. The portal technology is core to Liferay DXP, acting as the integration layer connecting backend systems across business operations so that companies can give consistent and unified experiences to customers, partners and employees.

“It’s becoming increasingly clear that businesses need a way to deeply integrate the systems that support company operations and processes in order to produce highly connected, relevant experiences,” said Ed Chung, VP of Global Product Management for Liferay. “We’ve designed Liferay DXP to be the key technology for businesses to accomplish this level of consistency and personalization, and we believe Gartner’s continued recognition affirms our place as a vendor closely in tune with the demands of digital businesses today.”
