    • Designed for growth and innovation.
The solution is modular and scalable, built to support new digital initiatives without starting from scratch.

    Background

Parnassia Groep is one of the largest mental health care providers in the Netherlands, with 13,500+ employees and nearly 500 teams delivering services across the country. The organization reaches over 77,000 people annually through preventive care alone and serves a broad range of mental health needs, from short-term counseling to long-term treatment and rehabilitation, under multiple care brands.

    Challenges

    • A fragmented web landscape. Parnassia Groep managed over 20 different websites across various care brands and user groups. Each site had been developed separately even though they shared a central back-end. This setup made updates and content management slow, repetitive, and expensive.
    • Inconsistent design and weak brand recognition. The lack of a standardized design system led to visual inconsistency. Users navigating from one site to another experienced varying layouts and functionality – reducing the impact of the Parnassia Groep brand.
    • High operational complexity and costs. Maintaining custom-built CMS components across so many sites was both time-consuming and costly. Even routine updates, like rolling out new CMS features, required duplicate work across each site, leading to rising overhead.

    Implementation

The project kicked off with a Proof of Concept (PoC) that laid the foundation for a smooth and confident transition. Liferay partner Puntus and Parnassia Groep worked closely to identify the functional building blocks needed to modernize content workflows and support a modular, reusable website architecture.

Puntus migrated the existing websites to Liferay’s platform-as-a-service subscription Liferay PaaS. Along the way, Puntus completely redeveloped all CMS components using out-of-the-box Liferay features. A group-wide design system was introduced to unify branding, and a flexible, configurable module library allowed teams to quickly spin up new sites tailored to specific care brands and user needs.

Crucially, the project didn’t stop at deployment. Puntus also assumed responsibility for platform operations and application management, ensuring long-term sustainability and support—all completed in under six months.

We are delighted to have found a way to comprehensively modernize Parnassia Groep’s web offerings and make them future-proof. The joint work with Liferay’s Partner Puntus as part of the PoC enabled us to identify the required building blocks and ensure editorial teams receive everything they need for their daily work. The implementation ran safely, efficiently, and within the tight project schedule.

    Results

    1. Unified content management = faster publishing. With all websites unified on a single platform and powered by modular CMS components, editorial teams can publish faster and more consistently – without having to rely on the developers for every change.
    2. ~30% reduction in operational and maintenance costs. By replacing fragmented, custom-built solutions with standardized Liferay components, Parnassia Groep cut operational and maintenance costs by around 30% – a significant long-term savings that also simplifies ongoing digital operations.
    3. Stronger brand presence and better user experiences. A unified design system ensures consistent, recognizable branding across all sites while still allowing for flexibility to target specific user groups and care services.

By consolidating over 20 websites into one centralized platform on Liferay PaaS, Parnassia Groep streamlined operations, empowered content teams, and strengthened their digital presence, setting the stage for continued growth and innovation in delivering important mental health care services.
